Serge Lavoie is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI) and ICPEI Holdings Inc. Before assuming his current role with ICPEI, Serge served as President of Echelon Insurance. Mr. Lavoie has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, previously serving as Chief Executive Officer and President at JEVCO Insurance Company. Throughout his career, he has served on a number of boards and committees, including the Canadian Insurance Claims Manager Association (CICMA) and the Groupement des Assureurs Automobiles (GAA). Mr. Lavoie holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Quebec University of Montreal.
Robert Ghiz is President and CEO of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA). He serves as an Advisor on numerous Boards including ICPEI Holdings Inc., the Prince’s Trust Advisory Council, the True Patriot Love Foundation and the Medavie Blue Cross. In addition to being Chairman of the Board of The Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island, Mr. Ghiz is Chair of Mobile Giving Foundation Canada and the Chair of the Medavie Foundation. Twice elected Premier of Prince Edward Island, Robert’s many accomplishments include his successful stewardship of PEI’s economy through the 2008 global financial collapse and his contributions to its record-setting economic growth following the recession. While Premier, Robert also led successful trade missions in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. Robert is proud to be the Canadian wireless industry’s champion in Ottawa, where he works to ensure the industry continues to enhance the personal lives and economic opportunities of Canadians across the country.
James (Jim) T. Revell is Vice-Chairman, External Relations of The Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI). Since 1993 he has served on the Board of Directors of ICPEI where he assumed increasing responsibilities’ as Vice President and General Counsel to the firm (1996) and subsequently added the role of Vice President Operations in 2002. A graduate of the University of P.E.I. (1982) and Dalhousie University Law School (1985) Jim is also a director and shareholder in a number of companies operating in P.E.I. and Louisiana. Prior to joining ICPEI he practiced law and was a partner in the Charlottetown law firm today known as Cox & Palmer. Active in the community he is a Board Member of Health PEI where he serves on the Executive and Audit Committee. He is also a Member of the University of P.E.I. Advisory Committee on Athletics and has served in local organizations such as Four Neighborhoods Community Medical Center and Parkdale Sherwood Headstart as well as a number of sports and charitable organizations.
Teddy Chien is Chief Financial Officer of ICPEI Holdings Inc. Prior to assuming this role, Teddy served as Vice President, Reinsurance, Mergers & Acquisitions at Echelon Insurance. Before Echelon, Teddy was Chief Financial Officer of a major Canadian company with insurance operations, where he gained considerable expertise in P&C insurance, investments, reinsurance, capital management, strategy development, mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, Teddy was also Chief Financial Officer of a Canadian public company.
Charles (Charlie) Cooke is the Founder of the Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI). Charlie’s career dates back close to 60 years starting in New Brunswick with Transamerica Insurance Company. In 1970 he returned to his native P.E.I. where he started Charlie Cooke Insurance Agency which today operated by his children is one of the largest insurance brokerages in the Maritime Provinces. Charlie also formed Atlantic Adjusting & Appraisals Ltd. and Maritime Finance and Acceptance Corporation within his insurance business endeavors. A graduate of Kings Edgehill Collegiate in Windsor Nova Scotia Charlie has been active in his community with local community groups and serving on national boards in insurance associations. Inducted in to the PEI Business Hall of Fame in 2008 and recognized by local hospitals and educational institutions for his philanthropic efforts Charlie remains active in the business community.
Murray Wallace is Chairman of ICPEI Holdings Inc. In addition to being on the Board of Directors of ICPEI, Mr. Wallace is also currently on the Boards of the Ascot Insurance Group Limited and Bode Canada. He was formerly a Director of both the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Axia NetMedia Corporation. He has previously served as a Director of Western Surety Ltd., London Insurance Group, Crown Life Insurance Co. and Queen’s University School of Business advisory Board, among others. Mr. Wallace brings extensive experience in the financial services industry, gained from former roles as CEO of Granite Global Solutions and Wellington Insurance, and as President of Axia NetMedia and Avco Financial Services Canada Ltd. Mr. Wallace is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
Nicolas Fillion is a Director in Financial Performance, Capital and Treasury, Administrative Department in the Property and Casualty Insurance Finance and Corporate Actuarial Services Division at Desjardins General Insurance Group since September 2019. At Desjardins, Nicolas led and participated in various projects related to managing, measuring and improving the performance of the organization. His duties also include overseeing capital management and optimization work in addition to the financial aspect of agreements with Affinity groups. More recently, he played a central role at Desjardins in the transaction that took ICPEI private.
Before taking up his current position at DGIG, Nicolas worked for nearly 20 years in the actuarial field as a specialist in group insurance and in the audit of actuarial liabilities, in consulting services for companies in various industries, in financing and in mergers and acquisitions within professional services firms. He has also carried out a number of business valuation, asset fair value and purchase price allocation work, particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions transactions. Throughout his career, he has developed an in-depth knowledge of insurance companies, particularly their financial information, including IFRS 17, their regulatory requirements, their risks as well as their organizational and business reality. Mr. Fillion holds a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial science from Laval University as well as the professional designations of CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Manager) and EEE (Experts in Business Valuation).
